44 blackmailers are detained by INSS in 9 governorates

The arrest of forty-four blackmailers in nine provinces was announced by the Iraqi National Security Service on Thursday.

"Our detachments, after activating the technical and intelligence efforts and obtaining judicial approvals, were able to arrest (44) extortionists in 9 provinces, based on several complaints received by the Iraqi National Security Agency through its official platforms and the free hotline (131) from citizens who were subjected to cases of electronic blackmail and financial bargaining in exchange for not publishing their private photos on social media," the National Security Service said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

"Over the course of a month in Baghdad and the provinces, sporadic duties led to the arrests," the statement said.

It stated, "The statements made by the accused persons were recorded and referred to the appropriate judicial authorities to receive their just punishment."
