Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced on Tuesday, the arrest of 31 extortionists in several provinces.
INSS stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "in light of several complaints received by INSS from citizens who were subjected to cases of electronic extortion and financial bargaining in exchange for not publishing their private photos on social media, and after activating the intelligence effort and obtaining judicial approvals, our detachments carried out in (6) governorates with separate duties, during which I was able to arrest (31) extortionists during the months of April and May, where the largest number was in Nineveh province, and (13) accused of extortion were arrested in the center and west of the city."
The statement added, " INSS detachments in the provinces (Holy Karbala, Anbar, Muthanna, Basra, and Babil) were able to arrest (18) blackmailers after setting up court ambushes for some of them."
It continued, "The statements of the accused were recorded and referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment."
