The North Baltic States, members of NATO, held a meeting in the Finnish capital, Helsinki, today, Wednesday, at the level of president or prime minister, against the backdrop of escalating sabotage operations against economic infrastructure in the depths of the Baltic Sea, as these countries accuse Russia of these actions through what is known as the Russian shadow fleet.

The media reported that "the meeting included Finland, Estonia, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and a representative of the European Commission participated in the meeting."

During the summit press conference, which included the Finnish President, the Estonian Prime Minister and the NATO Secretary General, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that "the alliance must send a message that it does not accept hybrid methods of influence against it, such as damaging vital infrastructure."

"We have to do everything we can to ensure that we can respond, see what's happening and be able to take the next steps to ensure that this doesn't happen again," he added.
