Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between Iraq and Syria on Friday.
Al-Mashhadani received Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani where they discussed fraternal bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to strengthen ties in a manner consistent with the nature of the current stage, said the Parliament Speaker's media office in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The Parliament Speaker stressed "the need to revitalize relations between the two brotherly countries, respect good neighborliness, and not interfere in the internal affairs of any country."
“There is a need to enhance security cooperation between Iraq and Syria in order to defeat extremist terrorist organizations such as Daesh and increase security coordination between Baghdad and Damascus in a manner consistent with the nature of the challenges facing the current stage,” he highlighted.
The two sides exchanged views on many political and economic issues.
