Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi stressed on Wednesday, that Iraq seeks to work for the stability of the region completely, while the Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, indicated that Iraq's political and security stability is a national and regional necessity.
"Al-Halbousi and his accompanying delegation met today, Shamkhani and during the meeting, bilateral relations were discussed between the two countries in terms of the cooperation in the security field, and the most important regional and international issues of common interest," according to a statement by the office of the Speaker of the Parliament, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Halbousi stressed that "Iraq is looking forward to build the best relations with its neighbors and brothers, in which preserving sovereignty, good neighborliness, and protecting the rights of citizens are firm principles in its relations," noting that "it seeks to work for the stability of the region completely through serious steps that will reflect positively on the peoples and in a manner that secures their future with security and economic stability, and removes the danger, specter of wars and crises."
For his part, Shamkhani stressed that "Iran considers sustainable political and security stability in Iraq, a national and regional necessity," explaining that his country "supports Iraq to achieve security and stability."
He welcomed the regional role of Iraq in the negotiations between the countries of the region, the latest of which is the negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
