Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed with the Secretary-General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation between Baghdad and Tehran.
A statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today, Tuesday, that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met the Secretary-General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, and during the meeting, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and joint cooperation between Baghdad and Tehran.
Hussein congratulated the successful conduct of the presidential elections in Iran, adding; "The economic and trade relations between Tehran and Baghdad are at a good level, and we are looking forward to strengthening comprehensive relations with the new government of Iran, given the great potential for cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Shamkhani stressed during the meeting that "the countries of the region are able to maintain security and peace without need for any external interference.
