Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani discussed with the President of the Iraqi Football Association Adnan Darjal, today, Thursday, the status of the national team and its preparations for the upcoming matches.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received the President of the Iraqi Football Association Adnan Darjal."
The statement added that "the meeting discussed the situation of the national team and its preparations for the upcoming and decisive matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers while stressing the importance of not missing the opportunity to achieve the dream of Iraqis to qualify, especially after participating in the "Gulf 26" Championship, from which the team came out with results that were not up to the fans' expectations.
" Al-Sudani stressed "the importance of everyone assuming national responsibility to secure qualification for the World Cup and achieve the dream of Iraqis to represent the country in the most important football event in the world," stressing "the government's continued support for the team and the federation in this national mission, and the importance of the fans and media continuing to support the national team in this mission."
The statement continued, "The Prime Minister discussed the issue of the Iraqi Professional League, and provided all means and requirements for its success; due to its impact on raising the level of clubs and players and its repercussions on the level of national teams and clubs in their external entitlements and what the government is providing to make this experience a success, after signing the partnership contract with the Spanish League (La Liga)."
The statement concluded, "The meeting witnessed a review of the "Dream" project for age groups, which is supervised by the Iraqi Football Association in cooperation with the Spanish League, which will be launched in the coming few days."
