Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein presented Iraq's vision on the regional situation and relations with neighboring countries to Dutch Foreign Minister Kasper Veldkamp on Thursday, while extending an invitation to his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq.
The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kasper Veldkamp, at the headquarters of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague."
The statement added, "At the beginning of the meeting, the Dutch Minister welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and The Hague."
It continued, "The two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and the security challenges facing the region. Fuad Hussein presented Iraq's vision on the regional situation and relations with neighboring countries." The statement added, "The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and the need to continue communication and joint coordination through rounds of political consultations and increasing bilateral visits."
According to the statement, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein "extended an invitation to his Dutch counterpart to visit Iraq. The latter welcomed the invitation, expressing his aspiration for this visit to take place soon."
Hussein expressed his "satisfaction with the development of relations between the two governments," praising "the role of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in heading the NATO mission in Iraq, which is scheduled to end next May."
The statement indicated that "regarding the work of the Joint High Committee for Agriculture and Water between the two countries, the two sides stressed the importance of holding ongoing meetings to enhance cooperation in water resources management and agriculture, and benefiting from the Dutch experience in this field."
Regarding Arab relations, the minister referred to "the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Baghdad," stressing "Iraq's keenness to ensure the success of its work in light of current regional developments."
