Liverpool club management has decided to move forward on its path towards renewing the contract of defensive star Ibrahima Konate.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, talks are underway between Liverpool officials and representatives of French defender Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds management wants to renew Konate's contract as soon as possible, which has prompted them to start direct talks to complete the task.

Romano confirmed that "Liverpool is confident of obtaining a new signature for Konate, who has recently shone with the Reds."
He added, "Liverpool's management and the technical staff are happy with what Konate is offering to the team, which is why they want him to continue as part of a long-term project."
