The President of the Federal Supreme Court-FSC, Jasim Muhammad Aboud, asserted on Tuesday, that Iraq has made substantial progress in the realms of democratic development and constitutional institutions.
FSC media office reported in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Jasim Muhammad Aboud, met with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, during his official visit to Armenia, in the presence of the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Dilanyan.”
Aboud emphasized the “deep historical ties between the Iraqi and Armenian peoples and Iraq’s commitment to enhancing and strengthening these relations across various sectors.”
He affirmed that “Iraq has achieved significant advancements in democratic construction and the establishment of constitutional institutions, aiming to develop a parliamentary democratic system that guarantees Iraq's unity in accordance with the constitution.”
The President of the Court noted that “extremism and terrorism have not deterred the Iraqi people from advancing towards the establishment of a rule-of-law system predicated on the principles of legal sovereignty and the assurance of the full enjoyment of constitutional rights by the people, including the rights to vote, elect, and nominate.”
He further elaborated that “despite numerous challenges, Iraq has succeeded in building constitutional institutions that facilitate the establishment of a democratic system pursuant to the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq. The Iraqi people have made tremendous sacrifices, with thousands of martyrs standing on behalf of the world in the fight against ISIS terrorist factions. Moreover, Iraq aligns itself with all peoples striving for their human rights, particularly the Palestinian people.”
For his part, Simonyan conveyed during the meeting “his profound appreciation for the President of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court for his invaluable visit,” underscoring “the significance of such engagements in fortifying the bilateral relations between the two nations.”
He reiterated “Armenia’s commitment to supporting and enhancing amicable ties with Iraq.”
In this context, the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jasim Muhammad Aboud, and his accompanying delegation visited the Iraqi Embassy in Yerevan, where they were received by the Chargé d'Affaires, Ali Abdul-Karim Atiwi, and the embassy staff.
The President of the Federal Supreme Court expressed his gratitude to Chargé d'Affaires Ali Abdul-Karim and the entire embassy staff for their considerable efforts during the visit.
The President of the Court emphasized “the imperative of cooperation with all entities to ensure the promotion of national interests for Iraq and its citizens, thereby safeguarding the unity of Iraqis and providing enhanced services to the populace”.
He also underscored the necessity of adhering to the constitution and advancing constitutional institutions to attain the requisite elements for the establishment of a robust state and constitutional framework.
