President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed on, Wednesday, that the Armenian component is an important Iraqi part that we cherish, while pointing out that Iraq now enjoys remarkable security, political and economic stability and is a fertile environment for investment in several fields.
Media Office of the presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA)that "president of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met today at the presidential palace in the Armenian capital Yerevan, President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan.
The statement added that " during the meeting, they discussed the nature of relations between Iraq and Armenia and ways to improve them, as well as discussing the developments of international events, where the president noted the importance of developing friendly relations between the two countries and expanding the horizons of bilateral cooperation at various levels”.
The president Rashid stressed that " the Armenian component in Iraq is an important part that we cherish, and they are the link that deepens ties between the two countries, indicating that the Armenian presence dates back to the Babylonian era and they have serious contributions to the construction of Iraq and sacrifice for it" ,pointing out" the extent of sympathy of Iraqis and their feeling of pain of the massacres committed against Armenians; Iraq went through the same suffering and witnessed in the stages of dictatorship massacres Halabja and Anfal and the latest crimes of ISIS”.
According to the statement, the president pointed out “the attention to activating the mechanisms of bilateral work and following up the outcomes of the Joint Committee meetings held recently in Baghdad, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation in the technological field, digitalization of the economy, digital services and governance”.
The president stressed that " Iraq now enjoys remarkable security, political and economic stability and is a fertile environment for investment in several areas, especially with regard to the development and rehabilitation of infrastructure, as well as trade exchange and cooperation in the tourism and environmental sectors", noting that" Iraq welcomes the participation of Armenian companies in the implementation of development projects and in various fields”.
According to the statement, the president praised "the warm reception shown by President Khachaturyan, extending an official invitation to the Armenian president to visit Baghdad during 2024, where it was accepted by President Khachaturyan ".
"President Khachaturyan expressed his pride in the president's visit to Armenia because of its positive repercussions on the nature of relations between the two countries, noting that it is a historic visit, being the first of its kind for an Iraqi president" the statement continued.
The statement added “The Armenian president praised the pivotal role played by Iraq in consolidating stability in the Middle East and supporting peaceful solutions to crises and issues in the world".
The statement pointed out that" the two presidents chaired a meeting that included the two official delegations, where they discussed signing agreements and memorandums of understanding in several areas that would achieve the best interests of the two friendly countries and peoples."
The statement continued " the expanded meeting discussed many common issues between the two sides, such as the need for regular periodic flights between Baghdad and Yerevan, as well as between Erbil and Yerevan, which would contribute to increasing the flow of tourists to the two countries, and strengthening social ties and ties between the two friendly peoples, the agreement on the abolition of the visa between the two countries, as well as" at the ambassadorial level for both sides”.
The statement noted that " emphasis was placed on the importance of the current official visit of the president to the Republic of Armenia in terms of consolidating political relations, expanding exchanges between Iraq and Armenia, activating the work of the Friendship Committee of the Iraqi and Armenian parliament to enhance dialogue and coordination in the two countries, consolidating parliamentary relations, as well as trade and economic cooperation, establishing peace and stability on the regional and international arenas,
The meeting also discussed cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, technology, facilitating the entry of companies and businessmen, as well as supporting the tourism sector, and stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat international terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and the need to commit to establishing a comprehensive, equal and representative international system in accordance with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, aimed at achieving peace, democracy and prosperity of peoples and ethnic and religious groups".
The statement stressed that" the meeting highlighted the signing of the protocol between the two countries during the third session of the Iraqi-Armenian Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation, which was held in Baghdad from September 12 to 13, 2023, which aims to promote trade between the two countries, call for the need to gradually diversify trade exchange and intensify investment dialogue, and develop cooperation in various fields of production, in the manner of implementing and activating government incentive mechanisms, the meeting also focused on ways to ensure the development of Energy Networks, Transport, Logistics and joint communications, including the development of programs in the fields of renewable and conventional energy, based on the principles of security and independence Energy, Nature Care and sustainable development in the two countries, the need to exchange experiences and information in the field of architectural planning, the introduction of the latest technologies in the field of construction, modern energy-saving systems and green spaces, and the promotion of advanced infrastructure in the field of civil construction".
The statement added that " the great potential for the development of cooperation in the field of high technologies between the two countries was emphasized, especially in the areas of digitization, the implementation of electronic services, the development of artificial intelligence and joint technological educational programs, in addition to deepening cooperation in the fields of Education, Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs, Tourism, Health, Labor, social issues and Environmental Protection, encouraging relations between universities, scientific and research centers and cultural institutions in the two countries, as well as facilitating the holding of conferences, workshops, exhibitions and other events aimed at developing cooperation in the fields of Science, Education and youth policy, noting the need for Deepening cooperation in the areas of preserving the rich historical and cultural heritage of the two countries, carrying out archaeological research, combating the Export, Import and illegal sale of Antiquities, cooperation within the framework of UNESCO, the forum of ancient civilizations and other multilateral platforms, as well as the importance of cooperation in protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms and promoting democratic values and tolerance by taking steps to deepen the existing historical and cultural relations between the different religious communities of the two countries, and promoting interreligious and intercommunal dialogue".
