PM: Working to assess the situation in Syria to make the necessary decisions

    PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani confirmed on Saturday that the Iraqi government is working to assess the situation in Syria and make the necessary decisions regarding its developments.

    Al-Sudani received the Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, who discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in various fields, especially in the security aspects, in a way that achieves mutual benefit between the two friendly countries, said the PM's media office in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    According to the statement, the Prime Minister praised "the Italian role that provided support to Iraq through the international coalition and the NATO mission," noting "Iraq's readiness to cooperate with friendly countries to establish stability in the region, due to its impact on global security."

    The Prime Minister stressed "the need to combine efforts and work to help the Syrians manage the affairs of their country, without any interference that violates the sovereignty and unity of Syrian territory," explaining that "the Iraqi government is working to assess the situation in Syria; in order to take the necessary decisions regarding its developments." 

    The Italian Defense Minister Crosetto conveyed the greetings of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and her aspiration for his visit to Italy," stressing "his country's desire to expand its relations with Iraq, based on the partnership and cooperation between the two countries, and its readiness to support the stability of the region," noting that "Iraq is taking steady steps to restore its role in the region."
