In international and regional forums, FM and Omani counterpart emphasize unification

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi stressed today, Saturday, the importance of unifying positions in regional and international forums.

    A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) - stated that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, and his accompanying delegation, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in the capital, Baghdad."

    The minister welcomed according to the statement this visit, praising "the depth of the historical relations between Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman," stressing "the importance of enhancing joint cooperation in the economic, commercial, educational and security fields, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the two brotherly countries."

    For his part, the Omani minister stressed "the Sultanate of Oman's complete openness to strengthening its relations with Iraq," noting "the importance of activating memoranda of understanding between the two countries, enhancing cooperation with businessmen and organizing trade fairs to expand the horizons of economic partnership.".

    The statement continued, "During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations to achieve common interests while emphasizing the importance of continuous coordination and consultation on issues of common interest.".

    The statement confirmed that "the two ministers stressed the importance of unifying visions and positions in regional and international forums, and enhancing cooperation between Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman in facing common challenges.".

    The statement concluded, "This visit comes within the framework of the meetings of the Iraqi-Omani Joint Committee, which will begin its work tomorrow, Sunday, headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries, to enhance bilateral cooperation in various political, economic and cultural fields."
