President of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation, Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, renewed today, Friday, his full support for Iraq's hosting of the 25th Gulf Cup, which will be held in Basra in January next year.
Al-Thani said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Gulf Cup Federation strongly supports this hosting, as it has confirmed on more than one occasion that the Iraqis have the right to host this tournament, which is a special tournament for the people of the region.".
He added, "We are fully aware of the aspirations of the football fans in Iraq for the return of this championship after an absence of more than 40 years. On the other hand, we have seen the progress made in infrastructure and sports facilities through repeated visits to the inspection committee.".
He concluded his speech by saying, "We are fully confident in the ability of the Iraqi Football Association in general and the city of Basra in particular to present the Gulf football forum in the best way," stressing at the same time the importance of completing all the required work on the agreed dates.
It is noteworthy that the Executive Office of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation, in its last meeting, approved the eligibility of Basra to host the Gulf Cup in its twenty-fifth edition, which will be held from the sixth to the nineteenth of January 2023.
