The United States, China called on to communicate with them on taking practical action to reduce the risk of arms races, pointing out that the strengthening of Beijing 's nuclear capabilities quickly is a matter of concern.
"It has become difficult for China to hide its enhanced capabilities and appears to have deviated from the decades-old nuclear strategy of minimal deterrence," State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a press conference, according to Reuters.
"Reports and other developments indicate that the nuclear arsenal of the People's Republic of China will grow more rapidly and to a higher level than previously expected," Price added.
"This is concerning and raises questions about the intention of the People's Republic of China. For us, it reinforces the importance of taking practical measures to reduce nuclear risks," he continued.
He also noted that Washington "encourages Beijing to communicate with it about practical measures to reduce the risks of destabilizing arms races.".
Price's speech came in response to a question about a report published by the American newspaper "Washington Post" that said that China had begun building more than 100 new missile silos in a desert area in the western part of the country.
And the report of the American newspaper quoted independent experts as saying that Beijing has started building more than 100 new silos for intercontinental ballistic missiles in a desert area near the city of Yumein in northwest China.
