Interior Ministry issues clarification on extradition of an accused wanted by Kuwait

    The Ministry of Interior said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Some social networking sites reported news and pictures about the Iraqi International Arab Police (Interpol) in the Ministry of Interior handing over a wanted suspect to its counterpart on the Kuwaiti side."
     
     The statement explained that "Iraq is a member of the International Interpol Organization, so the Ministry of Interior is working very carefully to implement agreements and treaties and to cooperate fully with Arab and friendly countries in this organization and in various security fields and is binding on it."  
     
    The statement added, "After the presence of a Kuwaiti citizen wanted by the Kuwaiti judiciary according to a number of criminal cases on Iraqi territory, Iraq received an arrest warrant from the Kuwaiti side and broadcast a research from the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers against this accused, where the legal procedures were completed by the Iraqi and Kuwaiti judiciary."
     
     
    He continued, "He was handed over to the Kuwaiti authorities, and this is what is required of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior in the extradition of the accused who are inside the country, and this was done between the Iraqi Interpol and the Kuwaiti Interpol."  
     
    The statement pointed out that "the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, through its competent departments, is working to recover those wanted by the Iraqi judiciary, it is working to extradite wanted from countries with which it has international treaties, memoranda of understanding and cooperation in accordance with judicial decisions, and that (Interpol) in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior receives daily from its counterparts in Arab and foreign countries dozens of wanted in various criminal cases, the most important of which are cases related to terrorism, drugs, corruption and others. "
