the United States affirmed its readiness to lift the sanctions imposed on Iran.
"We are ready to lift the sanctions that are inconsistent with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the 2015 nuclear deal)," State Department spokesman Ned Price said during a daily press briefing.
"There will be no unilateral gestures, because the United States prefers the compliance formula for the sake of compliance," the spokesman added.
A US delegation is attending a personal meeting of the members of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in Vienna to discuss the steps needed to fully restore the nuclear deal.
Representatives of the United States have held meetings with their counterparts from China, France, Germany, Russia and the United Kingdom, but direct talks with the Iranian team are not expected.
In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with the (5 + 1) group of countries.
The agreement stipulated that Iran would reduce its nuclear program and reduce its uranium reserves in exchange for sanctions relief.
In 2018, the United States withdrew from the JCPOA and began imposing sanctions on Iran in violation of the nuclear deal.
