Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Al-Hamdani and the Turkish Prime Minister envoy, Faisal Oglu, discussed the upcoming visit of the Iraqi delegation to Ankara, stressing the need to share the damage of water scarcity in Tigris and Euphrates.
The Turkish official also announced the issuance of directives to support Iraq with water release.
This came during a phone call where they discussed the upcoming visit of the Iraqi technical delegation to Ankara on June, 12 and the agenda of the technical meeting for the purpose of resolving common water issues between the two countries, according to a statement by the media office of the Minister of Water Resources, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Al-Hamdani stressed the importance of benefiting from this visit at technical levels and achieving the required goals by discussing the details of the draft cooperation protocol in the management of the main water column of Tigris River, the details of establishing the joint Iraqi-Turkish research center, and the proposed projects that Turkish companies contribute to implement and inform the delegation on the plan to operate the main dams built on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
He asserted the importance of sharing the damage between the countries involved in the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to overcome the water scarcity crisis and the lack of water releases from the upstream countries, out of the principle of friendship and good neighborliness that binds the two neighboring countries.
