The Ministry of Water Resources has set a date for improvement in the levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and while confirming that their low levels do not constitute a threat, it indicated that Diyala Governorate is one of the governorates most affected by water scarcity.

"The Ministry of Water Resources manages the file of water and water releases from dams according to a deliberate plan," ministry spokesman Ali Radi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicating that "the decline in levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers is due to the end of the winter agricultural season, and the lack of demand for water, and this The decline does not constitute a danger or a cause for fear for the citizen. "

He added, "The summer agricultural season will begin during the next ten days, which will push the ministry to release quantities of water from dams, which will improve the levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers," stressing that "

He pointed out that "the ministry seeks to preserve water storage as it releases water in limited quantities according to actual need," pointing out that "drinking water and the water of the agricultural plan are fully secure."
He pointed out that "Iraq's water revenues in the Tigris and Euphrates decreased by 50 percent, and in the Dokan and Derbandikhan dams and the Diyala and Sirwan rivers decreased by 70 percent, due to climate changes, lack of rain and the lack of snowfall."
He continued, "This matter is also proven by the memorandum of understanding signed between Iraq and Turkey in 2009, which was amended and re-signed in 2014 and ratified by the Turkish parliament, and this is what was announced by the Turkish side during the first Baghdad International Conference," pointing out that "Ankara and The special envoy of the Turkish president pledged not to harm Iraq's water quota, and this was also what was agreed upon with the Syrian side during the ministerial meeting that was held a few days ago within a closed television circuit.
