the Independent High Electoral Commission decided on Saturday to accept the requests of those wishing to withdraw from the candidacy for the elections.
A statement by the Board of Commissioners of the Commission, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "in preparation for the upcoming elections on next October 10, 2021, and in response to the requests received from the IHEC, the Board of Commissioners decided to accept the requests of those wishing to withdraw from the upcoming parliamentary elections, whether the candidate is a single candidate or within an alliance, according to terms and conditions, set the period from the 13th to the 20th of June as the date for submitting withdrawal requests.
The statement added, there are a set of regulations in the "Registration and Candidate Certification System" on the basis of which the nomination can be withdrawn or candidates can be changed, which are:
A political party or coalition is not entitled to change its candidates, submit the names of new candidates who had not been nominated before the end of the nomination period, or replace the previous candidates with other candidates, unless IHEC excluded some of its candidates and requested their replacement with others within a period determined by it.
The party or coalition has the right to withdraw the nomination of a candidate for the period specified by IHEC without replacing him with another, provided that his withdrawal does not affect the representation of women on the list and should be accompanied by the written approval of the candidate whose candidacy is to be withdrawn without having the right to nominate as an individual or among another list.
