Researchers at the University of Massachusetts, USA revealed the first liquid magnet ever can maintain its magnetic strength even when changing the shape, allowing the development of liquid robots. The liquid magnet is composed of nanoparticles floating in a solution - which usually behaves like a magnet with a magnetic field.

But by using a special combination of rye, the team succeeded in jamming the molecules to become very close to each other on the surface of the liquid to maintain its magnetic power. This pioneering discovery will change our understanding of magnetic materials and can find many practical applications in the future, such as liquid robots as mentioned above.
