Kurdistan Region Parliament held its first session today, Monday, headed by the oldest speaker, Mohammed Suleiman.
A correspondent for the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said: "Kurdistan Region Parliament held its sixth session today, headed by Mohammed Suleiman as the elder MP , who was born in 1948 and won from the New Generation electoral list," indicating that "the session was attended by a number of diplomatic missions and 19 consuls from some Arab and foreign countries."
He added that "the temporary speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament asked the elected members to step onto the podium and take the oath of office in alphabetical order.
Saman Ahmed, the Kurdistan Parliament's media official, told INA, “The session began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a minute of silence to honor the martyrs. The Parliament's Secretary-General then invited the oldest elected member to lead the oath-taking process and chair the first session. Afterward, the oldest member called the elected members in alphabetical order to take the legal oath.”
He added, “The Parliament hall has been administratively and technically prepared, and a committee was formed to welcome the elected members. A parliamentary schedule for 2025 has also been arranged, outlining committee meetings, sessions, holidays, and other relevant details.”
Ahmed confirmed, “We have not received any official notification of absences. According to the internal regulations, all elected members must take the legal oath within 90 days of the first session's date.”
