Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani launched on Saturday, the Iraq International Quran Recitation and Memorization Competition held under the slogan “From Baghdad, cradle of civilization, to Gaza’s resilience and Lebanon’s courage—the Quran: victory and strength.” The event featured 62 participants in Quran recitation and memorization from 31 Arab and Islamic countries.
The Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that “In his speech, Prime Minister Al-Sudani welcomed the international participants to Baghdad and highlighted Iraq’s pioneering role in promoting Quranic values, which instill principles of tolerance, peace, and love beyond religious or sectarian boundaries. He noted that Iraqis have overcome many challenges by following the guidance of the Quran, fostering unity and compassion within the nation.
The statement added, “The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting Quranic reciters and memorizers, providing them with university admissions, and promoting Quranic centers. He announced that this competition would be held annually as a tradition in Iraq.
‘Addressing the ongoing violence in the region, Prime Minister Al-Sudani condemned the atrocities committed against people in Palestine and Lebanon, criticizing the global silence and reiterating Iraq’s call to halt the brutal war perpetrated by Zionist forces,” the statement further stated.
The competition, supervised by both Shia and Sunni endowments, will run for six days and feature international and local judges specializing in Quranic recitation.
