The Grand Faw Port's first phase will be finished next year, the Ministry of Transport said Tuesday, confirming that the development road's soil studies and railway line designs are 100% complete.

During the visit of Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis al-Saadawi to Basra province, he oversaw the process of immersing concrete pieces in the submerged tunnel, which is one of the projects of the Grand Faw Port. "The progress of work in the port of Faw continues, as well as other projects of the Ministry of Transport, whether service or strategic," Maytham al-Safi, the ministry's spokesperson, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He continued: "The year 2025 will witness the completion of the first phase of the Grand Faw Port and will be operated through the old lines, which is one of the components of the development road, and the completion operations are continuing on the link road (highway), where cladding operations have reached very advanced completion rates and now the electric poles have been installed for the road and we are continuing to complete them."

Regarding the development road, Al-Safi pointed out that "we are still in the preliminary design stage of the development road project, which has reached its final stages, where the rates of the railway line, topographic survey, as well as soil investigations reached 100%, while the completion rates of the land road reached 84%."

He pointed out that "the next step will be to move to the final design stage and then announce the project to major international companies to compete in its implementation and choose the most appropriate ones to serve the interest of the people and Iraq in accordance with the vision of the Iraqi government for the success of the country's strategic projects under the close and direct follow-up by the Prime Minister and the Supreme Committee for the development road project and the port of Faw."
