Omar Ahmed, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), confirmed on Friday, that the special voting process for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections is proceeding well.

Ahmed said during a press conference in Erbil attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the electoral process is proceeding well, and the devices used in the voting prevent any fraud."

He added that "there is a case of fingerprint bypassing, which is a very small percentage, while the rest of the voters, who are the majority, are not included in the bypass at all," noting that "those included in the fingerprint bypass were identified when their cards were updated because their fingerprint are not readable."

He stressed that "mobile phones are prohibited from entering the polling stations," calling on "voters to remain calm and have enough time to cast their votes."

He added that “there is a case of skipping the fingerprint, which is a very small percentage, while the rest of the voters, who are the majority, are not covered by the skip at all,” noting that “those covered by the fingerprint skip were identified when their cards were updated because their thumbprints are not read.”
