The European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, confirmed on Tuesday that the EU is committed to helping Iraq fight corruption.
"We thank the Chairman of the Integrity Commission, the government, and members of parliament for their cooperation to enhance integrity," said Seiler during the Arab Forum for Enhancing Transparency and Good Governance - attended by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He noted, "We worked with integrity within the EU project to support integrity and financial oversight in Iraq with a budget of 5 million euros. There is a complementary strategy worth 4.5 million euros."
"EU is committed to helping Iraq in fighting corruption. During a meeting with the Prime Minister, the mechanism to help Iraq in combating corruption was discussed," he pointed out, adding "We are talking with members of the Parliament and the relevant authorities about the best legislation to combat corruption. There should be no amnesty for corrupt people."
Seiler highlighted that "there must be cooperation between all concerned Arab institutions to enhance integrity."
