GCC confirms: Forward in the electrical interconnection project with Iraq

    The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council - GCC confirmed on Monday moving forward in completing the electricity interconnection project with Iraq.

    The Council affirmed its firm positions and decisions towards Iraq and supported the ongoing efforts to achieve security and stability in Iraq, stressing "the importance of preserving the safety and unity of Iraq's territories, full sovereignty, Arab identity, social coherence, and national unity," according to a statement by GCC - followed up by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    The Ministerial Council praised 'the positive' partnership between the GCC and Iraq, stressing "moving forward in completing the electricity interconnection project to connect Iraq to the electricity grid in the GCC countries, to achieve greater integration and interconnection between Iraq and the GCC countries, in a way that achieves common interests and paves the way for more cooperation in the future."

    The Council stressed "the GCC's standing with Iraq in counterterrorism and combating extremism."

    The statement highlighted "the need to respect Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as to emphasize the GCC countries' standing together alongside Iraq, the brotherly country."
