Ministry of Electricity determines the date for the start of the Iraqi-Gulf linkage

    The Ministry of Electricity announced, on Thursday, the date for the start of the implementation of the Iraqi-Gulf linkage.

    The Ministry's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel, chaired at the headquarters of the Gulf Interconnection Authority in Saudi Arabia, a meeting of great importance to the Association of the Gulf Interconnection Authority," noting that it is "an important step to achieve reliability and stability of the the electrical grid, and a great stage for the exchange of energy benefit between electrically connected states.”

    The statement added that "the project is a promising start for Iraq's return to its regional position and important strategic location, and establishes the start of the great opening of work with the Arab brothers," pointing out that "the meeting discussed the progress of the electrical interconnection project (Iraqi - Gulf) and its importance."

    It pointed out that "the minister was briefed on the position of signing contracts related to them to accomplish their obligations towards this linkage, such as completing the Wafra transformative station within the State of Kuwait and establishing the linking lines between it and the FAO 400 K transfer station.”

    It added that "a number of proposals were also discussed to develop connectivity, and discuss the preparation for the second phase of the project.”

    For his part, the CEO of the Gulf Electrical Interconnection Authority pointed out that "the start of the implementation of the electrical interconnection with the Republic of Iraq next week represents a focus of work for years between the two sides, to crystallize the project between the GCC countries and Iraq," explaining that "the project will provide southern Iraq with electricity, in its first phase."

    He pointed out that "there are discussions between the Gulf Electricity Interconnection Authority and Iraq about the electrical tariff."
