Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, issued today, Saturday, a set of decisions regarding blocking offensive websites and low-level content.

A statement by the ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Minister of Communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri chaired a meeting at the ministry's headquarters that included the official partners providing Internet service (ISP) and mobile phone companies (Asiacell - Zain - Korek), in the presence of Technical Advisor Baraq Abdul Qader and General Manager of Al-Salam Public Company Nabil Abdul Baqi."

The statement added that "Al-Yasiri discussed during the meeting the project to develop the international access gateway system; to increase the robustness of blocking offensive websites on the Internet, which is one of the projects included in the government program decisions."

Al-Yasiri stressed "the necessity of implementing the decisions issued by the Council of Ministers and the Federal Court regarding the issue of blocking websites that violate publishing laws and offend the values of Iraqi society and have low-level content."

The minister stressed - according to the statement - "the importance of bilateral cooperation with ISP and mobile phone companies," stressing that "the responsibility is shared with the private sector; since the supreme government directives must be implemented and the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court are binding and final for all authorities."

The statement explained that "Al-Yasiri listened to a number of observations, ideas and suggestions that contribute to developing the work and overcoming the obstacles and difficulties facing it."
