All Necessary Measures Taken to Secure Iraqi Airspace, Says Maj Gen Rasool

    The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, confirmed on Saturday, that all necessary measures have been taken to secure Iraqi airspace, while noting that Iraq possesses the capability to monitor and track incoming and outgoing aircraft.
     
    In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Rasool said: “The Iraqi government, led by Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, has given significant attention to the development of air defense capabilities.”
     He added that “a contract was signed with South Korea several months ago to acquire an advanced air defense system, a process that will take time to fully implement.”
     
    Rasool further stated that “Iraq has the capability to monitor its airspace and track aircraft entering and exiting, and the Iraqi forces have taken all necessary steps to protect Iraqi airspace.” 
    He explained that “while the airspace is not fully secured, all measures necessary to ensure its protection have been implemented.”
     
    He also highlighted that “the advanced Korean-made X-16 and K-50 aircraft, along with transport and reconnaissance aircraft, form a powerful Iraqi air force that contributes to protecting the country and defending its sovereignty.”
     
    On the issue of border security, Major General Rasool affirmed that “all Iraqi borders, particularly those connecting us to Syria, are well-secured.

    These borders have been heavily fortified with the presence of Iraqi border forces, in addition to thermal cameras and surveillance equipment.” 
    He noted that “the military leadership places great importance on securing Iraq’s borders.”
     
    Rasool added that “Iraqi army units are deployed behind the borders, alongside five lines of border forces, conducting qualitative and preemptive operations in areas identified through intelligence, utilizing ambushes and precise monitoring.”
