The Minister of communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri announced ,on Friday, that the response rate of social media companies to block objectionable content is very weak, while she stressed the need for social media companies to respect the judicial decision and block objectionable content.
Al-Yasiri said "There is a joint cooperation with the Media and Communications Commission, as our ministry is specialized in the technical and executive side, but the commission is specialized in the media side, and authorized by “Dewani order” as the National Contact Point charged with the responsibility of communicating with social media companies and informing them of the content that needs to be blocked" according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
She added that " the response rate of Facebook, X, Instagram and other companies is very weak, so we hope that the Ministers’ Council and the Parliament will take decisions obliging these companies to respect the federal court decision and respect the Iraqi culture, and commit to blocking objectionable content”.
The Minister of communications Hiyam Al-Yasiri, announced earlier, to submit a request to the Council of ministers to block the TikTok application, while pointing out that Iraq came out of the list of the top countries visiting and watching porn sites.
