Manchester City won the English Charity Shield today, Saturday, after defeating its neighbor Manchester United on penalties in a match that is considered the opening match of the new English football season 2024-2025.
The original time of the match ended in a 1-1 draw, as Manchester United took the lead through Argentine substitute Alejandro Garnacho in the 81st minute, and the other substitute, Portuguese Bernardo Silva, scored the equalizer for Manchester City a minute before the end with a wonderful header.
The two teams went directly to penalty kicks, which smiled in favor of Manchester City with a score of 7-6.
Manchester City won the title for the seventh time in its history.
