The General Company For Ports of Iraq- GCPI, announced today, Monday, that the first portion of the road connecting Faw Port to the submerged tunnel has been completed. It also mentioned that an international company has been contracted to operate Faw Port, and it verified that the project's five piers have reached advanced completion rates.
"We shortened more than two months of the promise made to the Prime Minister on the issue of completing the road leading to Faw Port, which is supposed to end in November of this year," said Farhan Al-Fartousi, the Director General of GCPI, at a press conference attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA). He also noted that "the first section was opened from the road connecting Faw Port and the submerged tunnel."
"Operations will begin at the beginning of October in the submerged tunnel and will be examined under the supervision of the Dutch company at the end of the year," he continued. "The road connecting the port of Faw and the international road in the city of um Qasr reached a completion rate of 87.5 and this project will be fully completed in May next year."

Regarding the five piers, Al-Fartousi stated that "the container yard has reached 77%, and soon the navigational opening will be closed to start the full backfilling operations, and the completion rates have reached 97% and will officially end in the tenth month of this year.”
