The General Company for Ports of Iraq- GCPI warned on Saturday, against rail linking for cargo before the completion of Al Faw Grand Port, while noting that no port in the neighboring countries has any impact on Al Faw Grand Port.
GCPI spokesman, Anmar Al-Safi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The rail linking between Basra - Shalamjah, if it is used at the level of loads, it will be a great danger, as Al Faw port has not been completed until this moment. He expected that "the railroad connection will be for passengers only, whether it is to Iraq or Syria.
If this connection, is meant to be for cargo, then it will disrupt AL- Faw port and obstruct all ports, because the neighboring and nearby ports will remain competitive with the Iraqi ports, so it will be unloading their cargo of all those coming from the Middle East or to Europe or Turkey and others through these ports, thus the goods become outside these cities and this would have a huge impact, he added.
Al-Safi concluded, by saying: “Iraq is a link between East and West, and it is the shortest and best way for cargo carriers for merchants, because they calculate profitability issues so the shorter roads are the ways that attract traders.
