The Ministry of Oil confirmed, today, Friday, the opening of the gas compression treatment system after 40 years of cessation while indicating that the gas compression treatment system contributed to reducing thermal emissions by more than 2%.
The Deputy Minister of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Basem Mohammed Khudair, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The ministry celebrated the opening of the gas compression treatment system, which had been suspended for 40 years," indicating that "the technical and engineering cadres have proven their scientific and technical ability to rehabilitate these projects and have become comparable to global capabilities.".
Khudair added that "the system project will be used to invest gas by about 20 million standard cubic feet, in addition to the environmental benefit of reducing the percentage of carbon and methane gas in the atmosphere," stressing that "these achievements have contributed to reducing thermal emissions by more than 2%, according to the percentage set for Iraq at the Paris Climate Conference to reduce emissions until 2030. This is considered a distinguished achievement for the country in terms of the amount of emissions and the speed of achievement.".
He stressed that "the ministry has achieved the plans of the government program in the field of gas investment, as it launched the competition activity for two rounds, namely the fifth round supplement and the sixth round, in the presence and patronage of the Prime Minister," noting that "the total number of projects of the ministry reached 29 projects, 13 of which were referred.".
He stressed that "the ministry is keen, through its management, on the geographical distribution of these projects, including all governorates of the country, to contribute to achieving security and economic prosperity.".
He pointed out that "the Central Oil Company won 6 of the above projects," stressing that "the ministry is proceeding with the optimal investment of hydrocarbon resources and compensating for the depleted stock of oil and gas, in addition to new reserves through the discovery of oil and gas fields and structures, as it supported the exploratory activity to explore the fields and structures, followed by the development and production stage."
