The Central Criminal Court issued on Sunday, death sentences against seven drug traffickers, including a convict holding a foreign nationality for the crime of trafficking in narcotic substances.
The media center of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “the court issued its first death sentence against four convicts for importing and exporting narcotic substances, while it issued its second judgment against three convicts, including a convict holding foreign nationality, for importing narcotic substances from countries neighborhood for the purpose of trafficking.”
The statement continued, "These rulings were issued based on the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 and in reference to Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Penal Code."
