MOI Captures Suspects Involved in Attacks on Restaurants and Commercial Centers in Baghdad

    The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday, the arrest of individuals who attacked restaurants and commercial centers in the capital, Baghdad.

     

    The Ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "During the days of 26th, 27th, and 30th of May 2024, acts of sabotage occurred, involving the throwing of homemade explosive devices in Baghdad targeting KFC restaurant, Chili House Restaurant, and Cambridge Institute within the Palestine Street district, as well as KFC restaurant and Caterpillar Company in Karada /Al-Jadriya area, by individuals riding 7 vehicles and a motorcycle."



    The statement indicated that "Intelligence and technical teams have been formed to follow up and apprehend the perpetrators who violate the law."

    "After gathering accurate information, the names of the perpetrators, their workplaces, and residences were identified. The matter was presented before the investigating judge, who issued arrest warrants against the perpetrators in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of the Counter-Terrorism Law," the statement added.

    He pointed out that "Through a qualitative operation, several suspects were arrested, who confessed during the investigation to their involvement with a group of fugitive suspects in the aforementioned sabotage acts. Judicial arrest warrants were also issued against other suspects, and the remaining wanted individuals will be pursued by the Ministry of Interior and other security agencies."

    The statement mentioned that "Some of the suspects belong to security services, where they have been detained legally to refer them to the competent courts."
