For the first time in years, Mark Zuckerberg's wealth has surpassed his archrival Elon Musk, becoming the third richest person in the world.

Elon Musk, who in early March ranked first on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, fell to fourth place after Reuters reported that Tesla had canceled plans to buy a less expensive car, sending shares falling. Musk, for his part, denied this news.

This followed news earlier that Tesla car deliveries declined in the three months to March, marking their first year-on-year decline since the early days of the Corona pandemic.
Musk's wealth has shrunk by $48.4 billion this year, while Zuckerberg has added $58.9 billion to his fortune as Meta rises to new highs, including a new record on Friday.

Zuckerberg is among the three richest people for the first time since 2020, and this is the first time that Zuckerberg has entered the top three positions in Bloomberg’s ranking of the richest people since November 16, 2020, when his wealth was $105.6 billion and Musk’s wealth was $102.1 billion. Musk is now worth $180.6 billion, while Zuckerberg's fortune is $186.9 billion.

The gap between Musk's and Zuckerberg's wealth, which reached $215 billion in November 2021, shows how big tech companies have taken money from electric vehicle stocks and especially anything related to artificial intelligence.

Tesla shares have fallen 34% this year, making it the worst performer in the S&P 500. It has been hurt by a global slowdown in demand for electric cars, increasing competition in China and production problems in Germany. Meanwhile, Meta rose 49% thanks to strong quarterly earnings and excitement around the company's AI initiatives.

The rivalry between the two billionaires extends beyond their wealth: Musk and Zuckerberg have been engaged in an ongoing public feud that intensified when Meta launched Threads, a social media platform that competes with Elon Musk's X platform, and the two even publicly exchanged barbs last year. Their rivalry in a cage fight (which never happened) has been in the news, and Musk, 52, recently revived the idea on X, saying he would take on Zuckerberg, 39, “anywhere, anytime.”

Bernard Arnault, president of luxury giant LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, occupy the first two places in Bloomberg's wealth rankings and are the richest people in the world, with a fortune of $223.4 billion and $207.3 billion, respectively.
