MOI: A decrease in the rate of drug trafficking in Iraq

    The Ministry of Interior announced today, Saturday, a decrease in the rate of drug trade in Iraq, and while revealing its procedures for dealing with addicts, it confirmed the establishment of an integrated and specialized security system to combat this danger.

    Director of the Ministry’s Relations and Media Department, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The operations to combat drugs and psychotropic substances were based on a common strategy and scientific foundations, which contributed to building an important information base and a system of common relations between Iraq and the countries of the region, given that the scourge Drugs are a threat to the country and the countries of the region.”.

    He added, "Iraq succeeded in establishing an integrated security system specialized in combating the drug threat through the conferences held in Baghdad, where Iraq was able to gather the efforts of the drug control agencies, which contributed to building a database through which it was possible to identify the gangs or groups that stand behind the smuggling of drugs and the introduction of narcotic drugs at the local or international level.”.

    He pointed out that "the specific operations against drug traffickers were crowned with success, as the anti-drug agencies were able to reach most of the major drug traffickers, which contributed significantly to reducing the threat of drug trafficking in Iraq," pointing out that "the reports received by the Ministry of Interior “It indicates a significant and noticeable decline in the drug trade and that large areas of society are free of it.”.

    He pointed out that "the drug trade and its crimes constitute a problem for the security forces in all countries of the world, and it was necessary to know the methods and routes of this trade and the gangs associated with it at the international and local levels," noting that "knowing the data on this trade contributed to striking major drug traffickers.".

    He continued, "The Ministry has taken many measures in dealing with drug addicts, as 16 treatment clinics were built according to scientific foundations with the aim of ensuring their return to society naturally."
