The young star of the Spanish team Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, has become the youngest player in the history of the Spanish national team to score a goal at the age of 16 years and 57 days, during his first participation in a crushing victory over his Georgian host 7-1 in the 2024 European Football Championship qualifiers today, Friday.
Lamine Yamal came on as a substitute in the 44th minute to replace the injured Marco Asensio, breaking the record of his Barcelona teammate Gabi, who was 17 years and 62 days old when he played his first international match in 2021. Yamal, of Moroccan origin, scored the seventh goal for Spain, the 2023 UEFA Nations League champion, with a perfect touch inside the penalty area.
The young star, who became the youngest player to make his debut with Barcelona in an official match last month, received an invitation to represent Spain for the first time when coach Luis de Lafuente chose him to face Georgia and Cyprus this week, in the first group of the European Championship qualifiers.
He became an important pillar of Barcelona's attack at the beginning of the current season and was chosen as man of the match in the 4-3 win over Villarreal in the Spanish League last month.
