Rashid calls international community to stand against climate change

    The President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid called on Wednesday the international community to stand against acute climate change.
     
    The presidency said in a statement received by Iraqi news agency INA that “president Rashid met today in Baghdad US ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski, during the meeting, the US ambassador handed over the president a written message from the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs John Kerry concerning the climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh to be held at the advent of next month.”
     
    The message stated according to the statement “looking forward for the visit of president Rashid to the summit for mutual work, confirming the Concluded Charters at the Glasgow Climate Summit and the objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement," expressing "the pleasure of the United States to work with Iraq on the subject of climate along with other partners in order to find common points to achieve the desired goals in protecting the environment and ensuring the future of the earth and future generations."
     
    President Rashid stressed that “Climate change has become a global crisis for all", calling on "members of the international community to stand together to address the severe changes in the climate and exert the utmost efforts to protect the environment."
     
    He pointed out that "Iraq is looking forward strongly to engaging in the efforts to confront the phenomenon of climate change, as the country is one of the countries most affected by climate conditions and their impacts on the environment, economy and life."
