The Iraqi National Security Service in Maysan Governorate announced Thursday freeing a kidnapped man and the arrest of two of his captors , while calling on citizens to be careful and beware of crime gangs who offer cars or equipment at attractive prices on social media to lure the victim.
A statement by INSS , received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "according to intelligence information and judicial approvals, and after raiding the place of the kidnapping by the National Security Service detachments who were able to free a man from the people of Anbar Governorate, he was lured by one of the armed gangs to buy a car through a social networking site, it was offered for sale at an attractive price.
The statement added, "The gang stole $20,000 from the kidnapped, and then asked his family to pay a ransom of $80,000 for his release."
It also pointed out that "INSS's detachments continue to pursue the elements of this armed gang, whose involvement in most of the kidnappings in Maysan has been proven, after investigating two of its members, our detachments were able to arrest them and refer them to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment."
