Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) managed to seize on Monday, rare artifacts and manuscripts in three governorates.
"INSS detachments were able to arrest two people trading the antiquities trade, the first on the Rusafa side in possession of five antiquities in the form of pharaonic statues, and the second on the Karkh side with a rare gold piece," said INSS Media in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"After receiving intelligence information about their suspicious movements and obtaining the judicial approvals, a tight ambush was set up for them, which resulted in their caught red-handed," the statement added.
“The detachments of INSS in Muthanna governorate were also able to arrest two other suspects who were smuggling antiquities, Two rare manuscripts of the Torah and the Bible, gilded and studded with precious stones, were seized from their possession, while the detachments of INSS were able to arrest two suspects in Basra province, in possession of an ancient archaeological manuscript written in pure gold,” the statement included.
The statement stressed that "All the antiquities were confiscated, in addition to the weapons that were seized with the accused, whom all referred to the competent judicial authorities to receive their just punishment."
