Oman's Civil Defense Authority said Sunday, that rescue teams responded to nine reports of people trapped by rain in their vehicles in the Omani capital Muscat.

"It was able to rescue 25 people, all of them in good health, after being surrounded by heavy rains caused by the effects of Tropical Storm Shaheen," the authority said.

Meanwhile, the Omani News Agency reported that "heavy rains continue to fall in Muscat province due to the hurricane," noting that "the competent authorities call on everyone to stay in safe areas and not go out except for necessity".

The authority said in a statement that “the Hurricane movement continues towards the coast of Oman, which overlooks the Sea of Oman, and the center of the hurricane is about 130 km/h from Muscat province, and the wind speed around its center has been estimated at 116 km/h.”

The National Center for Early Warning had warned earlier today that Tropical Storm Shaheen, which hits the country's coasts, has turned into a Category 1 tropical cyclone.
