Al-Abbas's Holy Shrine confirmed, today, Wednesday, that the Supreme Religious Authority has stressed the importance of conducting a population census for years.

The Holy Shrine stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "after years of emphasis by the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, on the importance of conducting a population census according to legal controls and in a fair manner, and in an important step towards achieving a comprehensive vision for development and future plans, the general population census process was launched this morning throughout Iraq, which is the first of its kind since 1997."
