The Independent High Electoral Commission announced today, Friday its commitment to Elections Law No. 9 of 2020, while confirming that there is no legal article allowing IHEC to take fingerprints of those who are in quarantine.
IHEC spokeswoman Jumana Al-Ghalay explained in an exclusive statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "There is no article or any provision in the law about the participation of hospitalized patients in the elections, and IHEC cannot violate the law."
Al-Ghalay added that " Corona pandemic and the quarantine conditions do not allow IHEC to take the data and fingerprints of the patients and communicate with them," noting that "IHEC is committed to health preventive measures for the safety of employees and citizens, by providing masks , sterilizers and disinfecting the polling centers."
Al-Ghalay pointed out that "There is coordination between IHEC, the National Health and Safety Committee and the Ministry of Health, in order to provide emergency units for any situation that may occur."
