The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, announced today, Thursday, that the elections of October represent a turning point and pave the way for reviewing the system of governance, calling on Media to encourage participation in the upcoming elections.
"There are doubts and questions about the elections and their differences from their predecessors," said Salih in a press interview with a number of media outlets, including the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He added, "We worked to prepare the requirements for the elections," noting that "Iraq has gone through difficult circumstances and everyone is aware of the need to reform and that the current system is unable to provide a free and dignified life for Iraqis."
Salih pointed out that “October elections represent a turning point in Iraq, and it will be a pivotal event and pave the way for a review of the governance system," stressing that "the October elections have easier conditions than the previous elections."
He also called on Media to work at the level of the event and encourage participation in the elections, stressing that the Fourth Estate has an important role in monitoring the violations.
