Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi stressed to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran Jennifer Gavito, and the American Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller, the importance of the upcoming elections in shaping the features of the future period in Iraq.
The media office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated in a statement, that "Al-Halbousi received Gavito and Tueller, and the meeting discussed the political situation in Iraq and the early parliamentary elections. The meeting also discussed developments in the region, and a number of topics of common interest."
Al-Halbousi pointed out, according to the statement, "the extremely importance of the upcoming elections in shaping the features of the future period in Iraq, and the importance of the international community's role in monitoring the Iraqi elections to ensure their integrity and create confidence among citizens by choosing their representatives who express their aspirations, and to motivate them to wide-ranging participation."
