Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein called on all countries to cooperate in implementation of their obligations to extradite their nationals from the families of terrorists detained in Iraq.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement, that "Hussein received, at his residence in New York, Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Willems, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Hussein began the meeting, according to the statement, praising the support that Iraq received from the European Union countries in preparing for holding early parliamentary elections on schedule and sending the European Union election monitoring mission to ensure their legitimacy and transparency, stressing that "these elections constitute a pivotal stage in the future of the political and democratic process in Iraq."
The minister expressed his aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, and the contribution of Belgian companies to invest in Iraq and reconstruction.
For her part, the Belgian Foreign Minister praised Iraq's efforts in communicating with many countries for the purpose of securing the return of the families of terrorists detained in Iraq, including mothers, and their children who were born in Iraq from fathers or mothers to their countries of which they hold their nationalities.
