Adviser to the President: Iraq has a legal basis to recover its smuggled fund

    The Adviser to the President of the Republic, Head of the Legislation Department in the Presidency of the Republic, Amir Al-Kinani, confirmed today, Saturday, that Iraq has a legal basis to recover its smuggled money, while noting that there are a number of laws that will be announced soon.
     
    Al-Kinani said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Iraq has the legal basis to recover the funds, which is the United Nations Convention of 2002 ratified by the Iraqi parliament , and it is now considered a national law," noting that "Iraq  also has Riyadh Agreement that Iraq has ratified, as part of it is issued by the League of Arab States, which obliges all Arab countries to hand over criminals and the fund to Iraq in the event that they are requested with an integrated file, and therefore the legal basis exists.”
     
    He pointed out that " The law of recovering the fund, sent by the Presidency of the Republic is a strengthening of the legislative system that monitors the funds and their recovery," explaining that "there is a legislative dept. at the Presidency of the Republic there is a legislative department and the speaker is the head of the department, as we usually use specialized personal to write bills, and we have many laws that will be announced soon."
     
    Earlier, on Friday, the Ministry of Justice announced the imminent return of the looted funds from several countries, while revealing the formation of a common front with several countries that suffers the same issue, to recover the funds from the countries that obstruct this file.
     The Director General of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Justice, Hanan Munther, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "The conference to recover the stolen fund that was held in Baghdad came out with important results and the development of mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between countries.”
    Munther added, "There are some Arab countries cooperating with Iraq in this file, including Jordan and Lebanon, and the coming days will witness the return of funds for the benefit of Iraq."
